ShShSu #146. Rock pools & sunburn

Becoming absorbed in fossicking around rock pools is no excuse for my stupidity in getting sunburnt last week at Flinders Beach on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. But it's what happened.

When the tide is out, and the sun seems to be mild, with a gentle breeze hovering over ones skin, it's just too easy to become completely involved. There are so many interesting rock pools and rock formations at Flinders that it's easy to get distracted looking at snails, translucent shrimp so small that they are hard to see, tiny darting fish, starfish of delightful purples and pinks...and shadows! This week I've been well covered with suncreme and t-shirt on the few occasions the sun shone.

It's nearly time to put away the mask and snorkel, and rug up as the weather changes.

Thanks to Tracy over at Hey Harriet for hosting Shadow Shot Sunday. Pop over to see shadows from around the world.

Great shadow shots!
And, "fossicking around": Not in my rock pool you don't! I almost had to report you to the F word police for this one.

Sorry to hear about the sunburn. I hope that you're now fully OK.

Have a great week, Boonie

Sunburns are NOT fun at all. And, what great 'artistic' shadow photos.

Here is my Sunday link: My "Moon"rock Shadow

I like those rock pools. It is all too easy to get sunburnt while at the beach if there's a nice breeze around. It tricks us into thinking the sun isn't so harsh if we can't feel it. Happens to me all the time. And I never learn from it...

Hope you have a great week Sue :)

that Boonie! he makes me laugh. I love these photos. when I was visiting my sister in Oregon many years ago we went to the ocean and I spent hours and hours playing around in such tide pools. It's so easy to get lost in them. "rug up". never heard that expression before but I'm going to confiscate it for future use. happy SSS and have a beautiful week Sue!

Really wonderful shots! I adore tidepools! The little snails are my favorite. The crabs just make me nervous. =/ Sorry about your sunburn too. The tricky ones are always the worse!!!

Boonie: Fie on those fiendish 'f' word police. I'll frollick and fossick till I'm fried and fed up with my foolishness taking fun fotos at Flinders!
Anni: thankyou, you'd think I would have learnt my now wouldn't you!
Tracy: Weird isn't it, we know all about skin cancer, and it still doesn't sink in that we need high rating SPF all the time. sigh.
Chubskulit: thankyou
Becky: yes! Isn't Boonie the loveliest visitor :D
Rug up - now there's an expression I assumed was universal. What do you say? Cross cultural enrichment is a great thing, but I have been caught out a couple of times - some of our expressions simply don't translate well at all.
Heather: I tried to get a shot of the snails, but every time I clicked they pulled in their antenna (I realise I have no idea what those things on the top of their heads are called - eye stalks perhaps?
As for tricky sunburn - grrr to myself for being so foolish.

Such lovely pools. I think I could get into fossicking around them myself!
