What's in a name?

.

There’s a small, very small, tiny town in Victoria, (population of 45), but they’ve hit the international news.

The name of the town is Speed, but the locals agreed to change the name to SpeedKills if they got more than 10,000 Likes on Facebook. Then one of the local farmers, Phil Down, said if they got an extra 10,000 Likes he’d change his name to Phil Slowdown.

It was a massive success, and the name changing ceremonies were held last Friday.

Critics citing the complexities of road trauma, call it an empty stunt,
but I say “Well done, Speed Kills"

Love this! I don't care if stunts are stunts as long as they have an effect. And if this brought some fame to Speed Kills and Phil Slowdown, AND hopefully a little bit awareness about those two issues - I can't see how it can hurt :)

this is absurdly funny and delightful. you inspire me to write. a hat tip to Phil Slowdown and Speed Kills and you too Sue. I just love when people have fun with life.

thanks Cruella, I agree wholeheartedly. If it saves one life it's worth it. I like your new pic by the way :)

Kathe, yes he did! It was kind of strange to see this tiny town featured prominently on the news. They seem like such good natured people.

Becky, Hooray! You write beautifully anyhow, and obviously inspire others. Fun mostly seems to elude me, but I'm delighted with the response from this post - I just hadn't planned to be light hearted, so I'm not sure how I did it ;)
